Animal Removal – Interesting Facts About the Wild Raccoon

December 3, 2019 by Maryanne

There are many interesting facts about the wild raccoon that you might want to know about. These sometimes adorable looking critters might look adorable but you have to remember they’re called wild because they belong to the wild. Check out some of these facts to learn more about them.

Raccoons are nocturnal – they usually only come out at night. So this means you might not know that they’re lurking around your property when they are. Signs of raccoon presence include waste laying around your garden or lawn or your garbage cans messed up in the morning.

Raccoons cannot be tamed – some people find these critters too cute to handle so they attempt to domesticate and tame them. Some may have found desirable results but the truth of the matter is these raccoons still remain wild so you never really know if they will attack you at one point. You must know also that in many areas, it is illegal to tame and keep or own a raccoon so it’s best not to consider having these critters as a pet.

Interesting Facts About the Wild Raccoon

Raccoons rarely attack humans – unless they feel threatened, raccoons won’t attack you. That doesn’t mean they’re safe enough to be around though. Again, when they feel like you are threatening them or if you at least approach them, there’s always that possibility they will attack you.

Raccoons carry lots of diseases and viruses – just like other mammals, raccoons are rabies carriers. Although we rarely see people getting rabies from raccoons, it is still a possibility. They may also have pseudorabies, parvo, canine distemper, and infections canine hepatitis among many others.

When a raccoon frequently visits your property or if one refuses to leave, you should call experts in raccoon removal. These experts will help catch the raccoon and bring them to a safer place. You can also ask them to help you close the possible entrance areas of raccoons so they won’t be able to enter your property again.
